Position Purpose :
Maintain fire systems, protect craft and infrastructure in the Port and respond to emergency situations to reduce risk of
incidents and minimize the effect thereof in compliance with statutory regulations.
Position outputs :
1.Maintenance, testing and servicing of fire equipment and related apparatus( fire tender/ skid unit)

  1. Records management relating to fire emergency services( vehicles/maintenance/ equipment/tools)
  2. Inspection and testing of fixed fire alarms
  3. Perform fire protection duties on Cargo vessels, LPG vessels and Oil vessels break bulk quay, dry bulk quay and IMDG
    vessels
  4. Respond to emergency incidents during working hours and standby hours
  5. Perform role of driver/operator of emergency response vehicles
  6. Attend to fire and emergency incidents as first responder PLEASE NOTE: Transnet, its employees or representatives never ask for a fee from job seekers. Any such requests are fraudulent. Please report any

  7. Conduct fire prevention inspections throughout the Port( buildings, equipment, craft, infrastructure)
  8. Conduct fire awareness to Port employees and tenants personnel as and when required
  9. Conduct hot work standby and patrols
  10. Issue hot work permits during working hours and after hours ( when on standby)
  11. Conduct random compliance inspections on hot work permit holders
  12. Conduct random compliance inspection on Hazardous Chemical stores
  13. Management of fire control center
  14. Facilitate Fire Risk Assessment interventions
    Qualifications & Experience :
    Qualifications
  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Fire Fighter 1 certificate
  • Certification ( SABS1475) SAQCC will be advantageous
  • Driver license Code C1 and PDP
  • Hazmat Awareness
  • Hazmat Operations
  • First Aid Level 3 of Basic Ambulance Assistance certification
    Experience
    1-3 years experience as a Fire Fighter
