| Job Advert Summary | To provide insights through data and information that drive decision-making, assist innovation initiatives, and enable the identification of improvement opportunities for Rand Water core business. This is achieved through influencing the adoption of suitable advanced data analytics technology innovation at Rand Water, as well as by exploiting data, including big data, via innovative and suitable data analytics techniques and technology. |
| Minimum Requirements | Minimum qualifications are: • Degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in relation to Data Analytics, Computer Science / Informatics / IT, Engineering, Science or Mathematics / Statistics Desired qualifications are: Business Intelligence or Data Analytics Minimum Experience: • 3-5 years’ Experience in data analytics, business intelligence or information management, including data design/ modelling, data analysis, data mining/ discovery. • Experience in Information Management, IT Applications / Systems, Business Intelligence Systems or Information Architecture related disciplines. • Experience in building machine learning systems based on state-of-art algorithms would be a plus Desired Experience: • Experience in an industrial environment, such as a utility, and related digital technology (e.g. Scada, LIMS) would be a plus. • Consulting experience would be a plus. |
| Primary Duties | • Analyzing data / information and business processes, by taking advantage of data analytics capabilities within the company • Improving the integrated data analytics capabilities of the business, including automating the delivery of various insights and intelligence by collaborating with business functions (Engineers and Scientists) to understand key metrics, as well as the relevant digital technology and information management functions to understand the current and planned data analytics technology capabilities; and • Influencing, fostering, advising on and facilitating the advancement of data analytics related technology and innovation with the relevant digital technology and information management functions across Rand Water, including advocating how advanced data analytics (from data exposure to machine learning) can bring value to the business. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of data analytics in support of innovation by: • Use / develop data analytic capabilities fitting with business needs using appropriate techniques and technology; • Establish and maintain key collaborative network between Innovation Division and other functions such as operations, strategic asset management, scientific service, IT, finance, etc.). • Providing expert advice and new data analytics (e.g. big data) technology to Rand Water; • Identifying and supporting new digitalization initiatives; • Accountable and responsible for delegated projects with limited budget and authorised vote. • Decision Limits (Accountability) in line with delegated authority, for authorisation of work and procurement of goods and services; • Process and evaluate ideas, solutions, products and technologies; • Contribute to the review and development of data analytics processes and technology in line with best practice • Intellectual Property Management in relation to innovation. • Line reporting to the Innovation, Research and Development Manager; |
| Knowledge | • Experience with one or more data analytics/ business intelligence technology platforms (e.g. SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Oracle Hyperion, SAS) and experience applying them to solve business needs and create value. • Knowledge or industrial control systems (Scada, LIMS), water quality management and /or infrastructure asset management related technology would be a plus. • Demonstrate ability to collaborate effectively and independently with individuals at various organizational • Forward-leaning entrepreneurial experience and/or innovative thinking & approaches |
