ARTISAN: ELECTRICAL


The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with
partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It
provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest
technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food
processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its
wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and
a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.

Key Performance Areas:
 Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems,
 Reading technical diagrams and blueprints, performing general electrical maintenance,
 Inspecting transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components,
 Prepare and manage the project budget,
 Supervise, evaluate, and motivate personnel in programmes,
 Comply with OHS regulations and procedures,
 Execute plans for electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom, and other electrical systems.
 Install safety and distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit breaker panels, etc.),
 Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks, ensuring compatibility of components.
 Prepare and assemble conduits and connect through them.
 Prevent the breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables,
cleaning circuits, etc.

Requirements:
 An N3 Electrical Engineering qualification. Preference will be given to candidates with N6 qualifications.
 Qualified electrician with a trade test certificate,
 3-5 years’ experience in a wide range of artisan work and air conditioning, specialising in electrical work,
 Proficiency in the MS Office suite,
 Valid driver’s license,
 Willingness to work overtime as needed and do standby duties,
 Basic air-conditioning skills.

A competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities, and stature of the position.
