Vetting Investigator


Job Title : Vetting Investigator
Reporting Line : Manager: Protection Services
Overall Job Purpose : To support the execution of vetting fieldwork investigations within the Council for Geoscience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct vetting field-work investigations:

  • Gather relevant information
  • Conduct proper analysis and quality check on the information
  • Compile and submit reports to management and SSA on all vetting files and reports completed on a regular basis; and
  • Conduct vetting investigations in respect of secret and top secret levels

Provide inputs for the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, norms, and, standards in vetting investigations:

  • Analyse, research, and evaluate all related vetting investigations
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of investigation operating procedures
  • Provide advice and guidance on the interpretation and application of legislation, policies, and procedures

Ensure effective communication channels and systems between the Council for Geoscience (CGS) and State Security Agency and other related agencies:

  • Liaise regularly with State Security Agency Domestic and Foreign Branch, South African Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Home Affairs, and, other critical stakeholders for advice, assistance and to obtain additional information; and
  • Establish and promote relationships with external stakeholders, including, credit information providers, to access information
  • Administer files and partake in task teams dealing with matters related to vetting projects/processes
  • Participation in project and task teams dealing with a variety of subject areas

Administer files and reports completed by ensuring quality control and effective and efficient systems and report on all work allocated

 KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS)
  • Integrated National Vetting Standards
  • Minimum of three (03) years’ Vetting investigation experience
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office)

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Matric; and
  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Risk Management/Safety and Security Management/Social Science OR Degree (NQF 7) in Risk Management/Safety and Security Management/Social Science
  • Short courses in Analysis, Conflict Management, Listening and interviewing skills will add an advantage
  • A valid driver’s license
