OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR (OVC)
The Office of the Vice-Chancellor (OVC) is seeking a highly motivated person to take up the position of Director: OVC. The Director of the OVC provides high-level support and an advisory service to the Executive Officers (VC, DVCs and COO) of the University in achieving their mandates and ensuring compliance and operational management across the OVC.
The successful candidate will perform an advocacy, advisory and operational support role to the Vice Chancellor and his/her senior management team. Duties will include executive reporting, strategic project management, executive communication management, stakeholder management and leadership of the OVC
support team.
Requirements for this position:
- A relevant NQF 8 qualification
- At least 10 years’ relevant experience in the South African higher education sector, of which 5
years in a management capacity, covering administration and operations, strategy support,
financial management and staff management. - A sound knowledge of higher education processes and how the University operates and is governed.
- Experience in executive report writing and committee servicing.
- Experience in project management and the preparation, monitoring, interpretation, and
presentation of project dashboards. - Good knowledge of and experience in budgeting and resource allocation procedures and reporting.
A qualified candidate will possess the following competencies:

- Conceptual thinking with the capacity to deal with complexity, uncertainty, and change.
- Strong work planning and delivery skills.
- Analytical thinking and the ability to analyse and prepare information.
- Experience in conflict management and resolution.

Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the VC’s senior management team to translate strategic imperatives into effective
operational planning and execution. - Supporting the VC’s senior management team and leadership advisory groups on issues affecting
the University. - Providing relevant information on university policies, delegated authorities and governance
structures in order to advise the VC and senior management. - Providing high-level administrative support and associated delivery across the OVC including
committee servicing. - Managing the OVC support team to provide effective support to the senior management team.
This includes managing the workload and resources within the department for efficient workflow
within the OVC. - Monitor progress of senior management and OVC projects and present project status reports to
various university committees and user groups. - Further duties are listed in the position description.
The annual cost of employment for 2023, including benefits is between R 1 205 749 and R 1 418 527.
